Every computer has an IP address assigned to it if it is utilizing a network such as the internet. IP address stands for Internet protocol address. This is a series of numbers that help identify your computer and allow it to connect to others online. It is easy to use online tools to figure out one’s location just by using their IP address. Don’t believe me? Try this IP address locator and see if it is accurate for you.
If you are using a proxy to re-route your IP address then obviously the address locator will be incorrect for you but since I am not using a proxy, the locator pin pointed my general location on it’s map. It located the correct city but not the right side of town.
Anyways, it is just important to realize that your IP address contains this information and additional information can be tied with it when you utilize online resources.
